Parent Folder

What does this folder do?

This folder contains the majority of the "public" files (and associated subroutines, functions, and SSI) associated with 20/20 DataShed. It also contains the associated sub-folders.

Permissions and Security

Server

This folder may inherit the permissions from its parent folder; but also requires that the IUSR_<localmachinename> (or equivalent) user account have NTFS permissions to read files and folders as well as the ability to as well as the ability to create and delete files.

For comprehensive NTFS file and folder permission settings please see File/Folder Security (NTFS Permissions).

Internal

No internal permissions are required or managed by 20/20 DataShed. The general principle here is that all administrators, users, and visitors to 20/20 DataShed on your web site should have sufficient permission to read the pages and browse through the database contents and the files in this folder are considered "publi" by the software.

How to Maintain

The majority of the files in this folder requires no maintenance except the following:

Location

Root-Level Folder Installation

The parent folder of 20/20 DataShed can contain other files and in fact can be the main folder of your entire web site. Alternatively, you may choose to locate 20/20 DataShed inside a subfolder of your web site.

In the following example you can see that 20/20 DataShed's parent folder is also the main folder of the web site. The folder can contain other files and contents (shared with other pages or services on your site.)

It's important to note however that this can lead to problems if your web site already has a subfolder named images for example. In the future it may be difficult to maintain those folders and files if they become cluttered as it may be difficult to determine which image files are required by 20/20 DataShed and/or other pages of your web site.

In the following example the URL to the "listings.asp" page would be: http://www.your_website.com/listings.asp

Sub-Level Folder Installation

In the next example 20/20 DataShed is located in it's own folder (as a subfolder of the main web site). Note that the name of the folder is irrelevant and can be named anything you wish.

The benefits to creating a unique folder for 20/20 DataShed and its contents include first the fact that those files are neatly separated from other files on your site and secondly those files can be assigned different security settings than others on your site with relative ease.

In the following example the URL to the "listings.asp" page would be: http://www.your_website.com/catalog/listings.asp

Other Features

This file contains 2020applications_stylesheet.css and newuser_UserDefinedForm.inc which can be customized as you please.

How to Customize

The name of this folder can be changed at any time.
